THE CLIENT:
RapidPlas has been operating for over 30 years, providing the best water solutions for residential and agricultural storage needs.
They use a unique manufacturing process to create high-quality and structurally sound rainwater tanks that are built to support the communities in New South Wales and Southeast Queensland, where water storage is essential to local businesses and the farming industry.
Employing around 90 staff members, the Australian, family-owned business provides support to the local community though their local dealers as a leading supplier of rainwater tanks in Australia.
THE CHALLENGE:
Rapid Plas’s leadership team wanted to take a proactive approach to increase their leadership skills and improve their workplace culture. Prior to engaging with us, their team leaders were often lacking the confidence to step up and manage their teams.
Lack of leadership or poor leadership can trickle down into teams on the factory floor, resulting in employees losing motivation affecting productivity, quality, and safety.
Poor management can even result in high employee turnover from a potentially negative work environment.
They were looking for a training provider who could help train their supervisors and management teams with fundamental skills in leadership.
RapidPlas needed tailored leadership training that would suit manufacturing workers and could improve their team leaders’ confidence.
PREPARATION:
After discussing their needs for fundamental leadership skills, our team planned and prepared a two-day leadership program tailored to their needs and providing coaching support to six of their workshop supervisors.
Our overall approach was to build the trust with these six individuals and show them how to motivate their staff and deal with issues that could occur amongst team members.
Through one-on-one coaching, we wanted to roleplay situations that suited the manufacturing industry and the workspace Rapid Plas operates in.
INTERVENTION:
Following the discussions with Rapid Plas and the specific requirements of their supervisors, we developed our Rapid Plas Leadership Development Program, tailored for team leaders as opposed to senior management teams.
The delivery involved two training workshops delivered one month apart. Splitting the workshops into two days allowed the Rapid Plas leadership team to improve retention of key content and theory.
The workshops addressed the following areas:
- Identifying effective leadership behaviours
- Understanding what motivates team members
- Leadership styles and how to adapt using situational leadership
- Realistic conversational tools to reinforce good behaviour and manage poor performance
- Role plays and case studies
During the training sessions, the team was engaged and eager to participate in the workshops.
They quickly recognised the value of the training and were looking forward to taking the learnings from the workshops back into the warehouse.
THE RESULT:
Roy Firth, General Manager at Rapid Plas said they saw a noticeable difference in their team leaders straight away.
Each member of the leadership program took onboard the training and became better leaders through improved communication and sense of confidence within their roles.
